ONE man's Chaplin-esque slip-up on an icy Dublin footpath, which featured on an Irish news bulletin, is nearing a million hits on YouTube.

The RTE News clip which shows the mystery man's fall has been watched more than 850,000 times on YouTube and attracted more than 2750 comments.

The story was an update about the supply of salt to keep icy roads open in Dublin during the recent cold snap.

The voiceover plays it straight as the man marches confidently down the street before falling spectacularly on the slippery footpath.

Later news bulletins had to assure viewers that the man had escaped uninjured after many worried callers contacted the station.

"Seriously this is the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages," said one of the thousands of comments left on Youtube.

"I’ve seen this 200 times and I can't stop laughing," said another. "Ouch! I don't normally laugh at this kind of stuff. but that looked SO painful."

The video has already spawned at least one parody.

In preparation for his much-awaited return to Formula One next season with MERCEDES GP PETRONAS, Michael Schumacher will take part in a three-day GP2 Series test session in Jerez, Spain this week.

Following the approval of the FIA, the GP2 Series and the Formula One Testing Committee, Michael will drive the GP2 development car for three days from Tuesday 12 January to Thursday 14 January.

Michael’s desire to drive a high-performance competition vehicle as part of his preparations has found a match in the objectives of the GP2 Series to develop the 2011/2013 car. As GP2 are currently defining the technical features of the Series’ third generation car which will debut in Spring 2011, the Series organisers saw a fantastic opportunity to benefit from Michael’s experience and his legendary technical abilities.

One of the main goals of the three-day test will be to evaluate numerous suspension configurations in order to define several new set-up solutions which will provide more flexibility to GP2 drivers and engineers during the race weekends. Alongside that programme, the test will see the evaluation and validation of updated components, including a new clutch, to be introduced later this year.

GP2 Organiser Bruno Michel said: “Today’s test marks a milestone for the GP2 Series. VIDEO: Police warned over sledging on riot shields

Cops have been warned to be on their best behaviour -- after they were filmed using riot shields to sledge down a snowy hill while on duty.

The group from Thames Valley Police had been on on Boars Hill, Oxford, earlier this week when they decided to have a bit of fun.

Much to the shock of other people who were playing in the snow, the officers arrived at the top of the hill carrying riot shields.

They then proceeded to put them on the floor and push each other down the hill - all the time in full uniform and high-vis jackets.

But after complaints bosses have told them their actions were "a bad ides" -- we agree, there weren't enough shields to go round.

Supt Andrew Murray said: "I have spoken to the officers concerned and reminded them in no uncertain terms that tobogganing on duty, on police equipment and at taxpayers' expense is a very bad idea."

All right. It's time to separate the men from the geeks. You may have read a bunch of reviews of how great Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is but we bet that most of them have concentrated on the console versions. After all of the hubbub about no dedicated servers, no mod tools and only 18 players allowed online, can Infinity Ward's latest first-person shooter be any good on the PC?

Actually, there's quite a bit to like about the game as it turns out... but many of our concerns regarding the PC port of Modern Warfare 2 also proved to be true.

Let's start with the game's very short (inside of six hours on normal) single player campaign. Although it's incredibly brief, playing through the campaign is much like experiencing a Hollywood summer action flick. That's also a bad thing because, while it's thrilling during your playtime it also means that you will likely forget about the whole experience once you finish the campaign and it's also unlikely that you'll want to go back and replay any of it.

There are lots of huge levels to play through in single player. The game itself is truly global as you travel to four different continents, and there's even a brief non-playable sequence in orbit. From raiding a Russian military base to running through the slums of Rio to fighting in the Oval Office itself, Infinity Ward knows how to craft a single player experience that will keep you on your trigger and your toes. AI for the enemies is fairly solid. They will run toward you but also try to duck and flank your position at times so it's not entirely scripted.

British heavyweight David Haye (23-1, 21 KO’s) defeated World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev (50-2, 34 KO’s) by a 12 round majority decision last night to take Valuev’s WBA title at the Arena Numberger Versicherung, in Nuremberg, Germany.

The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 114-114 and 116-112. I had the fight scored a draw. Haye, 29, frankly fought a horrible fight with with his constant running and his low (we’re talking really low) punch output. Seriously, this was one of the worst bouts I’ve ever seen in all my life.

Is This The World's Worst Car Parker?

If you drove your vehicle into -- no, up and over -- another vehicle in a parking lot, would you care enough to leave a note? Some might be more inclined to pound their chest like a gorilla for this feat of monster-truckism, but we'd hope any reader of AOL Autos would simply stop and wait for the owners of the other vehicles to arrive.

A Canadian woman followed none such instructions, allowing her "park and run" to carry on and hopefully fade away like the sands of time. But after the video of her legendary parking mishap went live on YouTube, she quickly found herself the subject of an internet goose chase.

What Tripta Wrought

If Thornhill, Ontario held a contest for driving skills, you can bet Tripta Kaushal would not qualify. Witness:

The 62-year old resident of Richmond Hills, Ontario (a suburb of Toronto) entered the parking lot of Extreme Fitness on October 22 and casually arced her vehicle into a parking spot. But, as the video shows, she didn't stop there. Her BMW X5 went up and over the curb and onto two vehicles in the opposite row.

Backing up and into her own space, we half expected her to simply jump out in a Sergio Tacchini jumpsuit and stroll into the gym. Instead, she pulled out and drove away. It should be noted that the BMW she was driving showed little, if any damage.

Perhaps Mrs. Kaushal would have gotten away with it, but she made a few critical mistakes, not the least of which was the heinous piece of driving. In addition to fleeing the scene of the crime, she -- rather brazenly -- continued to visit the health club in the days following the incident.

An owner of one of the vehicles was an employee at the health club. With access to the parking lot security cameras, the footage went up to YouTube where it quickly blazed a path around the internet.

One site spoofed the CSI television program and asked its readers to zoom in to see if they could identify the license plate. But, as one would expect from a surveillance camera, the footage is grainy. And although the vehicle appears fully in the frame, exposing its front and rear license plates, they could not be made out. The driver was nowhere to be found, but the internet was watching. Soon the video had over 800,000 views.

Tripta Returns

This Wednesday, an amazing event happened. Inside the club, where Mrs. Kaushal was likely on the mountain elevation section of her elliptical workout, somewhere near the front desk, a different scene unfolded.

The owner of one of the damaged vehicles, Todd Jamison, peered out of the health club windows and saw the very same vehicle he had had been watching over and over again on the surveillance video.

It was the culprit!

Soon the authorities were called and Tripta Kaushal gave up the chase. She will appear in court on December 2.

BERLIN (AP)—Natalia Rodriguez of Spain was disqualified for tripping favorite Gelete Burka in a hectic finish to the women’s 1,500 meters Sunday at the world championships, giving defending champion Maryam Jamal of Bahrain the gold medal.

In a messy final, Rodriguez was scratched from the results list by the race referee for pushing aside Burka as runners jockeyed for position going into the final curve.

The disqualification moved Lisa Dobriskey of Britain to silver and Shannon Rowbury of the United States to bronze.

Rodriguez, who had finished in a season’s best 4 minutes, 3.36 seconds, insisted she did nothing wrong.

“I ran well and I haven’t committed any fault,” Rodriguez said. “With 250 meters to go, Gelete went wide a little bit and she left open the inside lane. I tried to pass there. But when she noticed I was about to do it, she closed it in.”

Rodriguez elbowed Burka aside as she tried to squeeze past. The Ethiopian fell to the blue track, scrambled back to her feet and finished 10th. Rodriguez walked over to the Ethiopian, who was lying on the track after she crossed the line, and held her hand.

“I felt bad for her,” Rodriguez said. “She was favorite for the medal and I wanted to support her.”

Spain reviewed video of the race but opted not to submit an official protest and accepted the disqualification, IAAF spokeswoman Anna Legnani said.

Jamal, who was on the other side of Gelete when she went down, blamed Rodriguez.

“The Spanish girl definitely was in the wrong for passing that way,” Jamal said. “I’m very disappointed that Gelete fell behind. I’m certain that had that not happened she would have taken the top three.”

After crossing the line first, Rodriguez looked confused by what had happened. She grabbed a Spanish flag from the crowd, but did not celebrate what initially appeared to be her first world title.

“I was going to run around the stadium, but all the crowd was whistling,” she said. “It was a bit disagreeable.”

Her disqualification opened a spot on the podium for Rowbury. As happy as she was to get a medal, the American had hoped to run her way into it.

“It’s so unfortunate that there had to be a fall and a disqualification,” Rowbury said. “I would much rather be up here having placed third in the race.”

The world record for the most firework rockets set off at once will be broken this August 20th at the Bournemouth Air Festival.

110,000 rockets, thats one hundred and ten thousand rockets! Will be loosed in under 60 seconds!

The “Roar on the Shore” event will see almost double the amount of rockets set off in 2006. When Fantastic Fireworks set the world record in Plymouth, England. The red white and blue rockets will get to a height of about 40 feet before erupting above the anticipated crowd of 50,000 spectators. Spectators are being asked to sponsor a rocket to help raise money for the charity for injured service men and women, Help for Heroes.

This should be a fantastic and patriotic, if very short, fireworks display. The rockets will be launched from a a 100ft long barge moored half a mile out to sea between Bournemouth and Boscombe piers. The noise level out at sea will be about 100 decibels.

He added: “It really is about every small donation. Originally titled “Project 880”, Avatar is James Cameron’s latest foray into science fiction filmmaking. It’s taken awhile to gestate, apparently he has been penning a script since finishing Titanic in 1997. Fortunately he has no plans to make True Lies 2, something that had been a real possibility.

James Cameron is no stranger to science fiction, having successfully written and directed two Terminator films and the classic underwater science fiction film The Abyss. And of course, we can’t forget Aliens. He is both writer and director here too.

In a nutshell, Avatar is an epic film set on an exotic alien planet where humans can only survive by projecting their consciousness into genetically engineered bodies (Avatars). People on Earth want to exploit the planet's natural resources, causing a war to break out with the planet's inhabitants. The main character, Jake, is an ex-marine who has fallen in love with a native forcing him to choose a side in the battle to come.

"Avatar is an emotional journey of redemption and revolution,” a January 2007 press release explained, “it’s the story of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival."

Earlier Cameron had described Avatar as "a futuristic tale set on a planet 200 years hence, an old-fashioned jungle adventure with an environmental conscience...”

Even earlier still, when Avatar was still titled "Project 880", a plot description used in a casting call revealed that:

"In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na'vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.”

Whatever the final result, Avatar's plot doesn't sound particularly ambitious or intriguing. Still, with his past science fiction film credits it's going to be one to watch out for. Although I doubt anyone will really need to watch out for it, the marketing campaign is likely to be extreme: Fox has given the film a massive $195 million budget (US). I’m guessing there may be one or two special effects too.

Apparently James Cameron had been waiting for digital special effects technology to take another step forward before attempting the film. Two of the main characters will be completely computer generated (hopefully the result is nothing like George Luca’s infamous Jar Jar Binks).

The cast includes Australian Sam Worthington as Jake Sully the paralyzed marine, Zoë Saldaña as Jake's alien love interest, and Sigourney Weaver as Grace.

Michelle Rodriguez (Lost) and Stephen Lang (Tombstone) are also onboard.

LONDON - A stargazer has filmed and posted on YouTube the video of what he claims to be a cluster of “UFOs” flying in formation “higher than a plane”.

Jason Goldthorpe, 37, of St Helens, Lancs, says that he could not believe his eyes when he saw the cluster.

The delivery driver said that he caught the phenomenon on camera above his house.

“The objects were shining gold in the sky, too high to be balloons, and looking just like I would imagine UFOs to look,” the Sun quoted him as saying.

“It was around teatime, the sky was clear, and they lingered in the sky for an hour or so, like they were watching us,” he added.

Jason further said that though he had spotted the strange objects many times before, it was only when he saw them lately that he decided to film them.

“I’ve seen these objects in the sky for the past four years,” said the father-of-two.

“They always appear at teatime and just on one day, either at the beginning or end of the month.

“Friends have also seen them and I thought it was time the world knew that something is out there.

“It’s as though these objects are watching and studying us. It’s all quite eerie really,” he added. (ANI)

It was announced and approved by Fox president Hutch Parker on January 30, 2007. It was initially slated for a December 12, 2008 release, but the scheduled release date was moved to July 1, 2009. sneak preview was shown in selected theaters on Father's Day in the United States. NEW YORK (CNN) -- World-record holder and defending champion Joey "Jaws" Chestnut held on to his hot dog-eating title Friday in an unprecedented tie-breaker at Nathan's Famous Fourth of July contest.

Chestnut, of San Jose, California, beat rival Takeru "The Tsunami" Kobayashi, of Japan, in a "dog off" in Coney Island where the two contestants battled to see who could finish five hot dogs first.

Chestnut and Kobayashi tied in the regulation competition, both eating 59 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, a record for a 10-minute competition.

"It was a little messier than I wanted it to be, but I got them in me and I got them down," Chestnut said after the competition.

Organizers decided this year to change the contest from 12 minutes to 10 minutes after "a piece of old Brooklyn historical ephemera was found that stated that the first contest, held on July 4th, 1916, was a 10-minute contest," Major League Eating spokesman Ryan Nerz said.

The previous record for a 10-minute contest was 42 hot dogs, held by Tim "Eater X" Janus, Nerz said.

Neither Chestnut nor Kobayashi had previously competed in a 10-minute format.

British man Ben Southall has started work on "the best job in the world" – a six-month contract as caretaker of the islands on Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

The former charity fund-raiser beat more than 35,000 applicants from around the world to the post, which involves exploring hundreds of tropical islands off the coast of Queensland while writing a blog with photos and video updates to attract visitors to the area.

The 34-year-old, from Petersfield in Hampshire, fought off competition from 15 other finalists to win the 150,000 Australian dollar (£70,000) role.

He was chosen by officials from Tourism Queensland on May 6 after a four-day selection process on Hamilton, Daydream and Hayman Islands.

Mr Southall, whose new home is a rent-free three-bedroom ocean-front villa on Hamilton Island, said "excited" could not begin to describe how he felt about starting his new job.

"It seems a lifetime ago when I sat down in January to plan and film my 60 second video application for the 'best job in the world'," he said.

"At times I still can't believe I was successful in being offered what has to be the most sought-after job in the world – the chance to spend six months exploring the islands of the Great Barrier Reef – one of the world's most amazing destinations.

"During the selection process in May I was lucky enough to visit a small part of the destination so I can't wait to get out there, start exploring as many of the islands that I can, and start telling the world about my experiences."

The job is part of a campaign to attract visitors to the Great Barrier Reef, and tourism chiefs claim it already has generated 200 million Australian dollars (£98 million) in publicity.

It became an internet hit, spreading across the world via YouTube and social networking sites such as Facebook.

Below the water, the Great Barrier Reef stretches for 1,600 miles across 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands and is the world's largest coral reef system with "an abundance of wildlife", according to Tourism Queensland.

Hamilton Island, where the temperature is warm all year round, is the largest inhabited island in the region and is located just off the coast of Queensland with blue skies, crystal water and pure sands forming "the backdrop to an ideal island life".

About two million tourists visit the islands each year, but most stay on the mainland and visit only on day trips.

CHICAGO – Visitors to the Sears Tower's new glass balconies all seem to agree: The first step is the hardest.

The balconies are suspended 1,353 feet in the air and jut out four feet from the building's 103rd floor Skydeck. Their transparent walls, floor and ceiling leave visitors with the impression they're floating over the city.

"It's like walking on ice," said Margaret Kemp, of Bishop, Calif., who said her heart was still pounding even after stepping away from the balcony. "That first step you take — 'am I going down?'"

Kemp was among the visitors who got a sneak preview of the balconies Wednesday. "The Ledge," as the balconies have been nicknamed, open to the public Thursday. Visitors are treated to unobstructed views of Chicago from the building's west side and a heart-stopping vista of the street and Chicago River below — for those brave enough to look straight down.

John Huston, one of the property owners of the Sears Tower, even admitted to getting "a little queasy" the first time he ventured out. But 30 or 40 trips later, he's got the hang of it.

"The Sears Tower has always been about superlatives — tallest, largest, most iconic," he said. "Today is also about superlatives. Today, we present you with 'the Ledge,' the world's most awesome view, the world's most precipitous view, the view with the most wow in the world."

The balconies can hold five tons, and the glass is an inch-and-a-half thick, officials said. Sears Tower officials have said the inspiration for the balconies came from the hundreds of forehead prints visitors left behind on Skydeck windows every week. Now, staff will have a new glass surface to clean: floors.

"It's very scary, but at the same time it's very cool," said Chanti Lawrence of Atlanta, adding that she's made her first step toward overcoming her fear of heights.

Adam Kane, 10, of Alton, Ill., rushed to the ledge with his friends and siblings, and they each eagerly pressed their faces to the glass bottom.

"Look at all those tiny things that are usually huge," Adam said.

The balconies are just one of the big changes coming to the Sears Tower. The building's name will change to Willis Tower later this summer. Last week, officials announced a 5-year, $350 million green renovation complete with wind turbines, roof gardens and solar panels.

With the ledge, visitors like Kemp said the nation's tallest building has succeeded in creating something they've never seen before.

"I had to live 70 years for a thrill like this," she said.

A furious Belgian father has gone to the police after his teenage daughter ended up with 56 stars tattooed on her face after allegedly asking the tattooist for "some points of colour".

Kimberley Vlaminck, 18, claimed that she asked for only three stars to be tattooed near her left eye as a present from her father, Diego, who was upholding a family tradition of tattoos.

"My father wanted to pay because in our family everyone has a tattoo," she said.

As her father ate an ice cream outside, Miss Vlaeminck claims she fell asleep before waking up to find her face covered in the "nightmare" tattoos.

"When he started to tattoo me, I did not feel pain and I fell asleep. I awoke as he tattooed me on the nose and I saw what he had done. I counted 56 stars," she said.

"I cannot go out on to the street, I am so embarrassed. I just look ugly, a freak, mutilated."

Miss Vlaeminck and her family are seeking damages worth £9,000 to pay for laser surgery to remove the tattoos.

But Rouslan Toumaniantz, who runs the Courtrai tattoo parlour called The Tattoo Box, has denied the allegations and demanded payment of 50 euros for the stars.

"She was awake all the time. I did not hypnotise or dope her, as they say, it was with agreement. No way could I have tattooed so many stars on her face against her will," he said.

Mr Toumaniantz has counterclaimed that the problems only began when the father saw his teenage daughter's tattoos.
